LAMACA Work Axe Serial No. 252 with Custom French Curve Handle by Space Cadet Axe Works
When we chose the handle design for our Work Axe a couple years ago, we went with a kind of straight-ish, narrow-ish design for a number of reasons. It's kind of half racing axe handle, half classic American mid-century fawn's foot pattern, which we like for the performance attributes. Light weight with excellent shock absorption without sacrificing strength, we find our Work Axe handle makes it easy to get your wrists into a good accurate position for bucking and felling.
We like it a lot, but we know that there is an entirely different style of felling axe handle out there that has many of its own advantages. And what it may give up in terms accuracy, it earns back in spades with comfort and mucho mucho drop-dead sexiness. It is the "French Curve" pattern, Oo La La, and we've always wanted to offer our Work Axe with this kind of handle option.
Well, you know the story. There just ain't enough hours in the day to do everything we want to do. But why would we do it ourselves when there are amazing hand-carved handle makers out there like Kyle Brown of Space Cadet Axe Works making Mona Lisas like the sample seen here. Bellissima! Kyle is a very talented carver and he truly nails the French Curve style. These handles are superb in every way.
So we are thrilled to collaborate with Space Cadet Axe Works for this auction of Work Axe Serial No. 252. We're tempted to do more of these depending on the response, but at least I know I'm keeping one for my personal collection! What an axe. Good luck to all bidders!
