Along with the Light Forest Axe, the Woodsman Cruiser was one of our first two offered models when we started in 2019. A Cruiser is basically a mini-double bit felling axe that was extremely popular in the mid-20th century, but has since almost disappeared. According to lore, Timber Cruisers were the scouts of the timber harvesting operation and went on ahead to mark the trees to be felled. Travelling fast and light was the goal, so they preferred these special mini-double bits for the job.
Whereas full-sized double bits weighed 3.5 to 6lbs on a 32-36in handle, Cruisers weighed a much more agile 2.5lbs on a 28in handle. All the good things about a double bit in a much more manageable package! No. 203 comes on a beautiful mixed-color handle for those always on the look out for that kind of color and contrast in a premium handle. Choice of finish goes to the winner along with a 2024 LAMACA Hat, but this one would look really really good with a traditional tung oil finish.
